Well-Being

At Bickerton Holy Trinity CE Primary School, we want our children to feel safe, secure, and happy—whatever activity they are engaged in. As part of our PSHCE curriculum and through our everyday practice, we help pupils develop vital self-regulation and emotional awareness skills in a variety of meaningful ways.

A key part of this is The Snug—a calm, welcoming space at the heart of our school where children can take time to reset, reflect, or simply enjoy a quiet moment. Whether they need a listening ear or a peaceful break, there is always a friendly face on hand to support them.

We use the MyHappyMind+ curriculum which is a complete mental health and emotional wellbeing package. It is a science and NHS backed programme which is grounded in the latest research about what it takes to create positive wellbeing. The programme is an integral part of our relationships curriculum and is taught across five modules: Meet my Brain; Celebrate; Appreciate; Relate and Engage and each introduces a new set of content and habits to help children build resilience, self-esteem and confidence.Screenshot 2025-09-15 190853.png

At Bickerton, we use a tiered approach to support children facing any difficulties, ensuring that each child receives the right level of help tailored to their needs.

Tier 1:

This forms part of our quality-first approach to mental health and wellbeing—through myHappymind+, we deliver weekly lessons to all children, teaching the key components of lifelong happiness and strong mental health along with the full PSHCE curriculum objectives. This proactive approach helps pupils build healthy habits and positive mindsets that will support them throughout their lives.

Tier 2:

We are proud to have two members of staff who are ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) trained, enabling us to provide targeted social and emotional support for children who may need it. These interventions are delivered under the guidance of the Educational Psychology team, ensuring a high standard of care and effectiveness.

Support is typically offered through a six-week intervention programme, with regular check-ins to monitor progress and adapt the approach to meet each child’s individual needs.

Tier 3:

For children whose difficulties are having a greater impact on their day-to-day life, we work closely with families and may seek external advice and support from a range of specialist services.

Tier 4:

This is where school will seek external support and intervention from agencies such Cheshire East mental health team; CAMHS or referrals to professional counselling.

If you have any concerns about your child’s wellbeing or mental health — or your own — please know that we are always here to listen and offer support.
