Pupil Premium
As a school we receive additional funding for our 'Pupil Premium' children to enable them to 'Live life in all its fullness.' This money we receive is based on the numbers of pupils in the school who are eligible for Free School Meals [FSM]within the last 6 years.
In order that all of our learners grow and reach their full potential, we have a curriculum that enables our children to LIVE:
Become LIFE LONG LEARNERS; ready for their next chapter.
Be IMMERSIVE in all that they do, exploring new opportunities and experiences.
VALUE DIVERSITY
Develop an ENQUIRING MIND.
The government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and their peers by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most.
The Pupil Premium was introduced in April 2011 and is allocated to schools to work with pupils who have been registered for free school meals at any point in the last six years (known as ‘Ever 6’).
It has been for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium is spent since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility. Schools are required to publish online information about how the premium has been used.
The school's allocation for 2024 -2025 is £19,1560
In allocating Pupil Premium funding, Tilston School aims to ensure that appropriate provision is made to:
-
Raise attainment for vulnerable pupils and close the gap between this group and their peers;
-
Support disadvantaged pupils in achieving at least age-related expectations in reading, writing and mathematics and ensuring their progress is at least good in these areas of the curriculum;
-
Equip all pupils with the necessary skills needed to access the full curriculum;
-
Support families in need of financial assistance with regard to school-related activities;
-
Support pupils in their personal, social and emotional development and help address any related barriers which may affect their learning;
We also look to maximise opportunities to enrich and enhance the curriculum where pupils show a particular talent or interest.
Pupils in receipt of pupil premium at Bickerton CE Primary School are carefully monitored to ensure they make progress in comparison to their peers; both within their classroom, across the year group and nationally.
Pupil premium children also benefit from extra curricular activities provided by school and outside agencies. These opportunities ensure pupils benefit from the wider aspect of school life.

How to claim pupil premium for your child
To register for Free School Meals you need to complete an Education Benefit form.
You can access this by:
• ringing 0300 123 5012 or visiting Free School Meals
If your child qualifies for free school meals, it’s important that you tell school – even if they take a packed lunch – as this enables school to claim pupil premium.
If your child does not have Free School Meals, but may be eligible because of your family’s income level, please contact the office [in confidence] to register them. Even if you do not wish them to have meals, this would mean the school could still claim Pupil Premium Funding that may be used to help your child
